Every year KSSNFB celebrates Earth Day. We look for partnering opportunities in the North Fulton area. The information noted here is an example of some of the activities we offer. We try to vary the projects, events and activities based on community needs.

This year we partnered with Big Trees Forest Preserve and EPA to celebrate Earth Day. We provided trash containers and bins to collect recyclables. We displayed at a booth during the festival offering Keep America Beautiful literature and we also awarded the Water Drop Badge to participating Girl Scouts. We created an interactive children's art project demonstrating water conservation.

We also celebrated Earth Day with 2500 students from 10 private and public schools by decorating brown grocery bags with environmental beautification messages. Whole Foods Market was our partner and provided the bags for the students. They were displayed in their store for a week and were used to pack groceries on Earth Day Weekend. Over 2,500 customers were able to read an important environmental message and learn more about taking individual responsibility.

Keep Sandy Springs-North Fulton Beautiful celebrates Arbor Day annually through tree planting education programs at North Fulton schools and with a community event held on or near Georgia's Arbor Day, the third Friday in February each year. Our Community Arbor Day celebration typically includes a proclamation reading by a Fulton County elected official, brief presentations by urban forestry professionals, and community tree planting involving participants of all ages.

Our "Terrific Trees" tree planting education programs have been generously supported for the past four years through the Georgia Forestry Commission's Urban and Community Forestry Assistance program. Trees Sandy Springs is a community initiative and companion program, designed to reverse the decline of tree cover and increase appreciation for the benefits of trees in an urban environment, which is supported in part by funding from Fulton County.

Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup is the nation's largest community improvement program, built on a foundation of individual responsibility and civic pride. The program is held from March through May with communities choosing the dates that work best for them. Last year, KSSNFB held numerous events. Noted here are examples of some of our GAC events. The activities change yearly based upon our community partnerships.

Our kickoff Great American Cleanup event involved cleaning up a large area, which had been used as a dump. Working with the newly formed Sandy Springs Conservancy, we organized a major cleanup of a county owned parcel near the recycling center, which had been used as an illegal dump for years. More than thirty volunteers filled a 30 yard container over two consecutive weekends. 2.87 tons of trash were removed. Keep Sandy Springs North Fulton Beautiful will continue to assist with this project. Our partners include Fulton County Government, Georgia Power and a local developer.

Another program was the creation of Liberty Gardens at Riverwood High School and Autrey Mill Nature Center. Our final Great American Cleanup event this year was the 'Style is Nothing New Fashion Show and Silent Auction.' This event featured a fashion show modeling clothing from our resale shops. Our partners were the Sandy Springs Business Association and the Community Action Center, which raise emergency funds and provide food and clothing for citizens in crisis. The proceeds from the ticket sales and auction items benefit these needy families. Celebrity hosts and more than 100 volunteers created a gala evening. The Event's Program listed our clothing drop-off date and encouraged all guests to donate clothing the following weekend.
